Vitalik Buterin

Vitalik Buterin is a Russian-Canadian programmer and writer primarily known as a co-founder of Ethereum and a Bitcoin Magazine co-creator. However, he is also involved in other blockchain projects.

Buterin was born in Kolomna, Moscow Oblast, Russia, in 1994. In 2017, he was listed by Forbes as the world’s youngest self-made billionaire at 23.

In 2013, Buterin learned about bitcoin from his father and later wrote a white paper proposing Ethereum. He attended the University of Waterloo in Canada but dropped out in 2014 to focus on Ethereum. He became a full-time writer for Bitcoin Magazine in 2015.

Buterin gave a high-level overview of blockchain technology and its potential uses. First, explaining that blockchains are essentially databases stored and shared by a network of computers rather than a single entity. This makes them tamper-proof and secure, as any changes would be visible to all users.

He said that blockchains could be used to create new kinds of online applications that are trustless and censorship-resistant. He cited social networks, file-sharing platforms, and online markets that would be difficult or impossible to build on top of traditional centralized architectures. He also noted that blockchain technology could revolutionize many industries, including finance, healthcare, and real estate.
